DEFINITION
What is an AI MVP?
An AI MVP (minimum viable product) is the smallest working version of an AI product that real users can try and that answers one business question: does the AI do the job well enough to be worth building further? It has a real interface, real data and measured results, not just a demo.
A normal MVP tests whether people want a product. An AI MVP tests that too, plus a second question most teams forget: is the model's output reliable enough? A chatbot that answers 60% of questions correctly might look fine in a demo and fail on day one with customers.
That is why our AI MVPs ship with two things a standard MVP doesn't: an evaluation set that measures quality, and an estimate of what the AI will cost to run each month.
Real User Validation
A real, deployed interface that users can authenticate and interact with, rather than a clickable prototype or mock wireframe.
Empirical Quality Evaluation
A test set built on your actual inputs with explicit accuracy bars and citation checks, so you know the model holds up.
Predictable Run Economics
Model API tokens, vector queries and cloud hosting calculated at scale, so you never get hit with post-launch billing shock.
WHO IT'S FOR
Who is AI MVP Development for?
AI MVP development suits three groups: founders who need a working AI product to show users or investors, product teams adding an AI feature to an existing platform, and operations leaders testing whether AI can take over a manual workflow. Each needs proof before a bigger budget.
Founders and startup teams
You have an idea and a short runway. You need something users can sign into, not a slide deck, and you need to own the code when it's done.
Product teams adding AI to an existing product
Your platform already has users. You want to test an AI feature, such as a copilot, smart search or document reader, without putting the core product at risk.
Operations and business leaders
A team spends hours on work that involves reading, sorting or answering. You want to know if an AI agent or assistant can carry part of that load before you commit to a full rollout.
MVP TYPES
What AI MVPs Do We Build?
We build AI MVPs across six common product types. Most first versions fall into one of them, and the type decides the architecture, the data you need and how we measure quality.
Generative AI products
Copilots, writing and content tools, document generation and structured extraction built on large language models (LLMs) such as GPT, Claude or Gemini.
AI agents
Agents that plan steps, call tools and APIs, and finish a task inside your CRM, ERP or help desk, with a person approving the actions that matter.
RAG assistants and knowledge tools
Assistants that answer from your own documents and show the source passage for every answer. RAG (retrieval-augmented generation) is what keeps the answer tied to your content.
Voice AI products
Real-time voice agents for calls, booking and support, with clean handoff to a person.
AI features inside existing software
One AI capability connected to the systems you already run, tested on a small group of users first.
Predictive and vision MVPs
Forecasting, scoring, classification, OCR and image inspection where a trained model is the right tool rather than an LLM.
DELIVERABLES
What Do You Get at the End of an AI MVP?
At the end of an AI MVP you get a deployed, working product, the source code and documentation, an evaluation report showing how well the AI performs, a monthly run-cost estimate, and a roadmap that says what to build next, what to fix and what to drop.
Working Application
A working application with login, the core AI workflow and the screens users need, nothing extra.
Full Source Code Ownership
Full source code in your repository, with setup, environment and deployment notes.
Empirical Evaluation Report
An evaluation report: the test set, the quality score against the target we agreed, and the cases where the AI still fails.
Monthly Run-Cost Estimate
A realistic run-cost estimate: model, hosting and third-party API costs modeled at your expected usage.
Monitoring & Observability
Basic monitoring and logs, so you can see what users ask, latency figures and how the AI responds.
Next-Steps Roadmap
A next-steps roadmap based on what real users did and where the model succeeded, not what we guessed.
COMPARISON
AI MVP vs Proof of Concept vs Prototype: Which Do You Need?
A proof of concept (PoC) checks if the AI can work at all, a prototype shows how the product will look and feel, and an MVP puts a working product in front of real users. Most teams need a short PoC phase inside the MVP rather than a separate project.
| Dimension | Proof of Concept | Prototype | AI MVP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main question | Can the AI do this task? | Will users understand the flow? | Will users use it, and does the AI hold up? |
| Who sees it | Internal team | Test users, stakeholders | Real users or a pilot group |
| Real data | A sample | Usually mock data | Yes |
| Working code | Partial, often throwaway | Little or none | Yes, built to extend |
| Output | Feasibility answer | Clickable design | Live product + evaluation report |
| Typical length | Days to a few weeks | Usually a few weeks or less | Several weeks to a few months |
METHODOLOGY
How Does Our AI MVP Development Process Work?
Our process runs in six stages: discover, define, prove, build, validate and launch. The "prove" stage is the one most teams skip; we test the AI on your real inputs before building the full interface, so you don't pay for screens around a model that can't do the job.
Discover
We study the workflow, the users and the data. We decide where AI changes the outcome and where plain software is the better answer.
Define
We pick one core use case, write the success criteria (for example, the share of test questions the AI must answer correctly, with a cited source) and agree the scope, timeline and stop conditions.
Prove
We build a quick technical spike on your data and score it against the test set. If the AI can't reach the bar, you find out now, at the lowest cost.
Build
We build the product around the working AI: interface, back end, integrations, auth and the guardrails that keep output safe.
Validate
We run the full evaluation again, test with a pilot group and fix the failure cases that matter most.
Launch & Learn
We deploy, switch on monitoring and hand over the code, the report and the roadmap.
PRODUCTION SAFEGUARDS
How Do We Keep an AI MVP from Failing After Launch?
Most AI MVPs fail after launch for three reasons: the AI was never tested on messy real inputs, the run cost was never measured, or the code was a demo that can't grow. We build against all three from week one, which is cheaper than fixing them later.
Evaluation from day one
A test set built from your real cases, run on every change, so quality never drops silently.
Guardrails and human review
The AI can't take risky actions on its own. People approve what matters.
Model-agnostic design
You can switch between model providers without rewriting the product.
Cost controls
Caching, smaller models for simple steps and usage limits keep monthly bills predictable.
Clean architecture
Simple, standard stacks that a future team can pick up, not a one-off demo build.
PORTFOLIO PROOF
What Have We Built?
These are AI products we have built and shipped. Each one had to prove the AI could be trusted by the people using it, which is the same test every AI MVP faces.
LabelRX
FDA Compliance AI
An AI compliance tool that checks product labels against FDA and industry standards. Every AI finding maps back to the requirement behind it, so a compliance specialist can verify it rather than trust a verdict.
SparkUp AI
AI Workflow Marketplace
An AI workflow automation marketplace with a drag-and-drop builder, so new AI tools reach the catalogue without a custom front-end build each time.
Zonified Connect
Autonomous Voice CRM
Our own AI voice CRM. Voice and SMS agents work a new lead from first contact to a booked appointment, on rules the business sets.
Insurance Claims RAG Assistant
Policy Clause Grounding
Answers claims questions in plain language with the policy clause attached to each point, preventing hallucinations on legal terms.
Zonified Rank
Autonomous SEO Platform
Our own autonomous SEO and content platform, with a switch for whether a person approves each post.
TECH STACK
What Technology Do We Use for AI MVPs?
We choose the stack per project, based on the problem and the team that will maintain it. For most AI MVPs that means a proven LLM API, a simple web stack and managed cloud services, so the first version ships fast and stays easy to change.
| Layer | Tools We Use |
|---|---|
| Models and AI | OpenAI, Anthropic, LangChain, LangGraph, Python, PyTorch, TensorFlow, OpenCV |
| Voice | Deepgram, ElevenLabs |
| Front end | React, TypeScript, React Native, Tailwind CSS |
| Back end | Python, .NET, REST APIs, Webhooks, FastAPI |
| Data | PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, pgvector, Pinecone, Qdrant |
| Cloud and DevOps | AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform |
ENGAGEMENT MODELS
Fixed Scope or Dedicated Team: How Can You Work with Us?
You can run an AI MVP as a fixed-scope project with a clear statement of work, or with a dedicated team that joins your process. Fixed scope suits a defined first version; a dedicated team suits companies that already have a product roadmap and need AI capacity.
| Model | Fixed-Scope AI MVP | Dedicated Team |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | A defined first version with clear scope | An ongoing product roadmap and team expansion |
| Process | Ours, end to end with defined milestones | Yours, joining your sprints and standups |
| Budget | Agreed up front before work starts | Predictable monthly engineering capacity |
| Scope changes | Managed through structured change requests | Absorbed dynamically in the sprint plan |
| After launch | Clean code handover or transition to maintenance | Team continues building and optimizing features |
SCALING PATH
What Happens After the MVP?
After the MVP, you decide with evidence: scale it, change direction or stop. If you scale, we harden security, add the features users asked for, expand integrations and move to production-grade cloud and monitoring. If you stop, you stop with your code and lessons, not a sunk cost.
FAQ
Common Questions
Clear answers to typical questions on budgets, timelines, evaluation targets and code ownership for AI MVPs.
Have a unique use case or question?
Our technical architects can review your problem and give you an honest appraisal.
Talk with our teamCost depends on the AI type, data work and integrations. An MVP built on an existing model API costs far less than one needing custom training or many system integrations. We give a fixed quote after a short discovery call.
Most AI MVPs take several weeks to a few months. Simple LLM-based tools are faster; agents with several integrations or regulated data take longer. We set the timeline in the define stage and share progress throughout the build.
Not always. Many MVPs start with an existing model and a small set of your documents or past cases. You do need real examples to test quality; a modest, well-chosen set is often enough for a first evaluation.
Ownership of the code and data is agreed in the contract before work starts. Third-party models such as GPT or Claude stay under their providers' terms, and we design the product so you can switch providers later.
Yes. We often build the AI feature as a separate service that connects to your CRM, ERP, help desk or app through APIs, so it can be tested with a small user group without changing the core product.
We agree a measurable target before building, test against a set of real cases and report the score and the failure cases. If the AI misses the target in the prove stage, we tell you before the full build starts.
It shouldn't be. Value comes from your data, your workflow and the integrations around the model. We design the MVP so that the parts competitors can't copy, your context and process, sit at its core.
